Before the duo even arrived in Italy, a piece of luggage was sent ahead of their flight. It wasn’t just any bag—it held custom-designed emperor costumes and critical wardrobe pieces for a series of planned street sequences meant to blend historical power with modern pop fantasy. The idea was bold: Sidow Sobrino and his husband Richard would walk the streets of Rome in full emperor regalia, merging performance art with spontaneous spectacle.
But fate had other plans. “We sent the costumes ahead of time so that by the time we arrived in Rome, we could focus on meeting with our filming crew,” said Sidow Sobrino. “When they didn’t show up, we had to improvise with whatever we had. That alone changed everything.”
What was intended to be an on-the-ground fusion of style and symbolism quickly turned into an exercise in spontaneity. While the team adapted and filmed across iconic locations, including the Colosseum and the Vatican, technical complications compounded the wardrobe setbacks.
Much of ROME-ANTICS was shot live using a Wi-Fi connection, automatically uploading the footage to a cloud system for remote editing. But after the final shoot day, the team discovered corrupted files and overexposed shots—some completely unusable. The emotional weight of the moment was captured in a now-archived sequence showing Sidow and Richard visibly shaken.
“Diego has an ability to improvise,” Richard shared. “I just followed his lead. I tried my best—but the Eternal City just wasn’t having it.”
Still, the story doesn’t end there.
True to his relentless creative spirit, Sidow Sobrino compiled the damaged and discarded footage into a raw, unfiltered archive—a separate visual known as The ROME-ANTICS Bad Tapes. The content may never be part of the polished release, but it captures the human emotion behind the myth. “I’m very sensitive and perceive situations as they occur,” said Sidow Sobrino. “While in Rome, my body experienced out-of-the-ordinary sensations—overjoyed, if you please. The energy was so strong it manifested in ways I didn't expect. But with imagination, drive, and the courage to take risks, we built something we’re proud to share.”
Sidow goes on to explain that scenes meant for personal memory became part of the visual experience, weaving their love, spontaneity, and truth into the final edit.
“We got to share images from around the country that would have stayed private,” he added. “But now they’ve become part of the cinematic experience—and that makes it even more ROME-Antic.”

In Paris, they sang in front of the Arc de Triomphe; in Rome, they stood before the Colosseum.
