David Mirisch (1936–2023) was a Hollywood publicist and entrepreneur whose career carried forward the prestige of one of cinema’s most storied dynasties — the Mirisch Film Company. Known for producing 72 feature films that garnered 24 Academy Awards, including three for Best Picture, the Mirisch name became synonymous with excellence through classics such as West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, The Great Escape, The Pink Panther, Some Like It Hot, In the Heat of the Night, and The Magnificent Seven. With 58 Academy Award nominations tied to their productions, the family helped define the golden age of Hollywood.

Building on this legacy, Mirisch carved his own path through David Mirisch Enterprises. As a press agent, he orchestrated the publicity of legends including Merv Griffin, Omar Sharif, The Supremes, Johnny Mathis, Raquel Welch, Perry Como, Lindsay Wagner, and Farrah Fawcett. His reputation for elevating talent and navigating the world of celebrity made him indispensable to the industry.
Over time, Mirisch became known as “The Man with the Golden Rolodex” and “Saving Funds While Making Funds-Man” for his ability to blend entertainment with philanthropic innovation. He passed away on May 7, 2023, in Jacó, Costa Rica, at the age of 87 — leaving behind a legacy defined by both Hollywood glamour and a visionary approach to fundraising and entertainment strategy.
