Akwid is a Mexican-American hip hop group known for blending urban rap with regional Mexican music, creating a genre-defining sound that speaks to bicultural identity. The group consists of brothers Francisco “AK” Gómez and Sergio “Wikid” Gómez, originally from Jiquilpan, Michoacán, Mexico, and raised in Los Angeles, California. Before forming Akwid, the brothers performed under the name Juvenile Style and were part of a previous rap collective known as Head Knockerz, alongside members Sabu and John John.
Relocating to the U.S. at ages three and five, Sergio and Francisco were raised just west of Downtown Los Angeles in what is now known as Westlake South. They attended local schools including 10th Street Elementary and Berendo Junior High, later sharpening their artistic voice through life experiences in South Central L.A. Immersed in hip hop culture, the brothers recognized a space to fuse traditional Mexican sounds with urban beats, pioneering a movement that resonated across generations and borders.
Akwid’s work is celebrated for giving musical identity to bicultural youth, particularly within the Latino community. Their style, message, and authenticity have positioned them as respected figures and trailblazers in Latin urban music.

Akwid es un grupo de hip hop méxico-estadounidense reconocido por fusionar el rap urbano con la música regional mexicana, creando un sonido que define un género y refleja la identidad bicultural. El dúo está conformado por los hermanos Francisco “AK” Gómez y Sergio “Wikid” Gómez, originarios de Jiquilpan, Michoacán, México, y criados en Los Ángeles, California. Antes de formar Akwid, los hermanos se presentaban bajo el nombre Juvenile Style y formaron parte del colectivo de rap Head Knockerz, junto a los miembros Sabu y John John.
Tras mudarse a Estados Unidos a las edades de tres y cinco años, Sergio y Francisco crecieron al oeste del centro de Los Ángeles, en lo que hoy se conoce como Westlake South. Asistieron a escuelas locales como 10th Street Elementary y Berendo Junior High, desarrollando posteriormente su voz artística a través de vivencias en South Central L.A.. Sumergidos en la cultura hip hop, identificaron un espacio para fusionar los sonidos tradicionales mexicanos con los ritmos urbanos, dando origen a un movimiento que ha resonado por generaciones y fronteras.
