Why Are We Striking

As Hollywood actors we are currently on strike due to the ongoing negotiations between our union, led by Fran Drescher, the famous actress from the 90s TV show "The Nanny," and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). Despite more than four weeks of discussions, the AMPTP, which represents major studios and streaming platforms such as Amazon, Apple, Disney, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount, Sony, and Warner Bros Discovery, has been reluctant to provide a reasonable agreement.

This strike stems from our dissatisfaction with the proposed deal put forth by the AMPTP. The terms offered by the alliance do not adequately address our concerns and fail to provide fair compensation and working conditions. As actors, we feel that our contributions to the entertainment industry are undervalued, and the profits generated by the studios and streaming platforms should be more equitably shared with the performers.

Throughout negotiations, our union has been pushing for better wages, improved working hours, safer working conditions, and increased benefits. The success of the entertainment industry relies heavily on the talent and hard work of actors and actresses; our demands are both reasonable and necessary.

We hope to leverage our collective power by going on strike. Ultimately, everyone in Hollywood is striking to assert our worth, demand fair treatment, and ensure that our contributions to the entertainment industry are recognized and appropriately rewarded. Thank you for being so supportive. We need each other more than ever.
